When Aaardvark opened in 1972, we sold used clothing. Around 1974 recycling was really taking
off so we called our stock "recycled clothing". As more and more businesses appeared following
our model of selling second hand goods, the vintage label was applied to just about anything that
wasn't new.
There have always been antique stores and small boutiques that sold truly vintage at
prices sometimes in the stratosphere. At Aaardvark we try to keep the prices low, and the
quality high.
Originally, we carried styles from the 30's to the 50's (remember it was 1972). Today most of
our vintage is from the 70' & 80's.
We do have a limited amount from the 50's & 60's. New
arrivals every week, so the stock varies as to sizes and selection.
We are open 7 days a week (extended hours in October). Our selection in costumes, wigs, jewelry, hosiery, shoes- including GoGo boots, Western boots, and Platform shoes, is unmatched by any other store in South Bay. That goes for the huge pop-up stores. If you need home decorations or a cheap fright wig see them. But if you're looking to get a quality costume at a good price, with any other accessories you may want, we have it all. Besides the most popular Halloween lines, we carry of limited selection of vintage clothing as well. So if you like to put together a custom look, we have that too.
We have a great selection of 70's polyester double-knit pants & big collar shirts. Vintage tie-dyed t shirts, a hippie wig, peace sign necklace/earrings..it's all about the peace & love, man. We also do the 50's & 80's.pretty soon the (yikes) 90's.
Aaardvark also carries make-up and colored hair spray. Mustaches, fake eyelashes, cigarette holders, the list goes on & on. There are long and short wigs, and wigs in different colors. We are known for having that one thing that will finish off your costume. We carry a lot of odd ball accessories you're not going to find at other stores. Why? Because we listen to our customers. Many people are looking to add something to an existing costume because they want to forgo the expense of a new costume.
We have many, many items to do just that
For 38 years we have had a "no return policy". We want you to be happy with your purchase, so we insist you try the costumes on before you leave the store. This is much easier for the customer who doesn't want have to go back and forth trying to get the right fit.
Since we are open all year, we deal with customers every day who are going to one kind of theme party or another. Our friendly knowledgeable sales staff can point you in the right direction, but they can't decide for you what you want to be. Sorry. We have limited parking, so shop early.
